How We Research Our Okinawa Guides

Where our information comes from, how we check prices and opening hours, and what we never do.

Updated 2026-10-15 · Facts checked 2026-10-14

Okinawa changes fast. New flights, new hotels, shops that open and close. Our guides are built to stay accurate, and this page explains how.

Where our information comes from

Every fact in a guide comes from a source we can point to:

  • Official sources first. The business's own website or social account, the operating company, airlines, and public bodies such as cities, Okinawa Prefecture and the Japan Meteorological Agency.
  • Company announcements. When a hotel or shop announces something new, we use the company's own release and give its date.
  • Asking directly. When something isn't published, we ask the business.
  • Our own visits. When we write from our own experience or use our own photos, we say so.

We don't base guides on blogs, review aggregators or other people's videos. If we hear about a place that way, it is only a lead: we check it against an official source before it goes in.

We use AI tools to help with research and drafting, but every fact is checked against a source we can point to, official ones first, and a person reviews each guide before it is published. Anything we couldn't confirm with an official source is marked as reported (with the outlet's name) or unconfirmed.

Videos on our pages

Sometimes a video shows a place better than words can. When we include one, it is embedded with YouTube's official player and comes from the creator's own channel, so the views count for the people who made it. The player may start at the moment the place appears. The video is there for you to watch; we don't take facts or words from it.

How we keep facts current

  • Every guide shows the date we last checked its facts. Pages with prices or times are re-checked about every two months; if a check is overdue, the page says the information may be out of date.
  • Prices and opening hours carry the month we confirmed them.
  • If we couldn't confirm something, we say so ("unconfirmed") instead of guessing.
  • When we fix a mistake in a published guide, we add a dated note to the guide's correction log.

What we never do

  • We don't copy text, photos or footage that belong to someone else.
  • We don't present AI-generated images as real places.
  • Recommendations are never for sale. If a page ever contains affiliate links, it says so at the top.

Seasons matter

Okinawa is warm all year, but typhoons, the rainy season, jellyfish season and the basketball season all change what a trip is like. Our guides tell you when the experience they describe actually works. The climate numbers come from the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Corrections and updates

  • 2026-10-11 — Rewrote this page to describe our current method: guides are researched from official sources, not from travel videos.
  • 2026-10-15 — Corrected an overstatement: not every fact has an official source. Facts are checked against a source we can point to, official ones first, and anything we couldn't confirm officially is marked as reported or unconfirmed.
